The 2006 Winners
The Regional and National winners for Practice Manager of the Year 2006 were announced with a Gala Dinner held at London's Madame Tussauds on April 26th.
We received entries from across the UK, with a very high standard of nominations. We would like to send our congratulations to the following winners (with extracts from the Judging Panel's comments):
National Winner
Val Hempsey from Bridges Medical Practice & Millennium Family Practice.
Val was described by the judges as 'a street-wise manager who is admired, loved and revered'.
She is the deserved winner of a 15 day P & O Carribbean Cruise.
National Runner-Up
Sarah Harrison from Millfield Medical Centre.
Sarah was praised by the judges for running apractice where 'the only focus is on patients and their predicaments.
She is the winner of a 12 Day Cruise.
Scotland and Northern Ireland
- Sandra Yule from Fyvie Oldmeldrum Medical Group
A terrific & comprehensive practice run by an articulate, energetic & thorough manager. Sandra is highly thought of and is a top drawer manager.
Wales
Alan Gardner from Hope Family Medical Centre
This is a highly successful practice, run very well. It’s family values are very much in the family practitioner tradition. This ‘feels’ so good. Bright, engaged staff, innovation and a centre of village life, within which it’s hard to ignore Alan’s commitment & effort.
South West
- Kate Meacham from Royal Crescent & Preston Road Practice
Kate is a disarming and charming person who is really very tough. She is a mature, smart, thoughtful and seriously sound manager of a very large practice with nurse lead clinics, mental health clinics, chiropody, physio, diabetes – the whole nine yards!
Midlands
Sarah Harrison from Millfield Medical Centre
This is an extraordinary practice where the only focus is on patients & their predicaments – with Sarah running the whole business. She manages across the clinical interface including recruitment, supervision & appraisals and is hugely impressive, with real attention to detail.
South East
Pat Bray from Beggarwood Surgery
Pat is powerful, entrepreneurial, determined & totally focused. Her achievements are awesome in that, whilst setting up her current practices from scratch, she has also been involved in turning around 2 ‘failing’ practices. Her practices have near perfect QoF points, all the expected clinics & a mix of private providers for counselling, aromatherapy and homeopathy, as well as minor surgery.
North
Val Hempsey from Bridges Medical Practice & Millennium Family Practice
Val’s deceptively easy going style hides a smart, calculating, street-wise manager who is admired, loved and revered by management & clinical colleagues alike. She manages across 2 practices and her nomination was endorsed by every member of staff. They love her.
Greater London
- Catherine Arden from Princess Street Group Practice
Catherine is very interesting, thoughtful & has done a great job. She is a quiet & natural leader, very bright & the staff love her. She is creative & has made the very best out of something that was very ordinary.
A complete list of The Finalists is available along with all the shortlisted candidates.
The calibre of entries was very strong, and we hope that those that did not make it through to The Final will take part in 2007.
